VIVE LE COUVERTURE D'ÉTÉ! Pop Up Records recording artists SUMMER BLANKET (pernice bros, wilco, belle & sebastian) return to the Dada Danceteria™ for a special warm-up show before leaving on a tour of Asia! With special guest, DJ Grand Theft Otto spinning indie pop, '60s & '70s soft rock, and all your orch punk faves! Sponsored by Donkey Fire! "Where's there's Donkey, there's Fire!" jon ist rad @ 2:35 PM + + + BIG THINGS FOR 2004! So, with the continued success of --->POPSCENE, I've decided to expand my empire into other areas of interest, namely movies and a print publication... --->POPCINEMA will debut sometime in the next month or two, possibly at Dada, but I'm not sure at this point (right Jeff?) It will focus mainly on American and foreign, sci-fi, horror and non-mainstream films from directors like Takashi Miike, Guy Maddin, David Lynch, Kiyoshi Kurosawa, Mario Bava, Jean-Pierre Jeunet, Peter Greenaway, Seijun Suzuki and many more. I will also show TV shows or movies that are out-of-print, or unavailable in America at this time, including Heat Vision & Jack! This will be a FREE event to promote indie culture in South Florida... besides, charging money to exhibit a DVD is probably illegal. --->EJECTOR is the tentative title of a new, quarterly magazine to focus on local and worldwide indie culture, with the savvy of Giant Robot, the sophistication of RES, the immediacy of mid-'90s CMJ, and the irreverance of UNCUT. If you have an interesting take on this scene, let me know... and stay tuned! jon ist rad @ 11:41 AM + + + SNMNMNM AND SUMMER BLANKET! This is the show you've been waiting for. An indie pop extravaganza to remember! North Carolina's answer to They Might Be Giants SNMNMNM hits the Dada Danceteria™ at 11PM, then SUMMER BLANKET brings its own brand of chamber pop to close the show. Featuring DJ GRAND THEFT OTTO spinning plastic and all your favorite obscure orchestral punk! Sponsored by Donkey Fire! "Where there's fire, there's donkey!" jon ist rad @ 6:37 PM + + + A PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT Just because you come from the West Coast and a "music city" like Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Portland or Olympia, doesn't mean you know more about music than we East Coast folk. Please DO NOT attempt to astound us with your musical knowledge by mentioning Jack Johnson, The Postal Service, Interpol or Portishead. We just assume you watch a lot of Mtv2. Also, DO NOT say you love "European music" and then stare glassy-eyed at the mere mention of Stereolab, Air, The High Llamas, Komeda, Tahiti 80 or British Sea Power. This clearly shows you actually know NOTHING about European music, except for some obnoxious house DJs with bad teeth and really short hair. And for God'sake, DO NOT make the claim that you "want to start my own radio station" because doing so would cost thousands, even millions of dollars, not to mention equipment, facilities, zoning, taxes and a host of other expenses and red tape meant to keep independent owners away from the airwaves, and that's if you win a lottery for a license. In other words, DO NOT talk out your ass about something you know nothing about. Lastly, DO NOT assume that because you have a hot body that you can get away with this shit! Goodnight, it's summer in California Sleep tight, 'cause you know I'll just bore 'ya Even though you're dying for a fight I've got a hunch you'll be nowhere in sight 'Cause you just don't know what you're talking about And you fell in love with a dead boy scout Digging up the music that brought him to life How can you ever go back How can you ever go... Goodnight, it's winter in California jon ist rad @ 3:47 AM + + + NOTHING RHYMES WITH ORANGE! If you missed their packed-house show last night, consider yourself lucky they'll be playing at Dada again on Sunday, February 8th. They never skipped a beat, and kept a large crowd of fans enthralled for over 2 hours. Thanks to Kelly for making it all happen! jon ist rad @ 10:14 PM + + + EVAN ALTSHULER BRINGS HIS ONE-MAN SHOW TO POPSCENE Most describe him as the Jason Mraz of South Florida, mainly due to his bouncy, blues-influenced pop songs. Check him out on the Dada Danceteria tonight at Midnight, with DJ GRAND THEFT OTTO spinning your favorite indie rock and pop tunes. jon ist rad @ 9:03 PM + + + |
